I had a revelation today.
I'm treating my marriage like a comic strip---Peanuts.
But it's not meant to be comical!
We're at a place where we're forging new territory. The old reactions are out we proclaim and we're handling communication with new, improved ways. Thing is, we both have memories of previous attempts and how they didn't work like we wanted. To forget those times and try something that sure looks like the old way...well...
I feel like Charlie Brown with the football! Everytime Lucy promises it will be different and every time, she deceives him. How can you not feel for the guy?
Or how about you moms who know SpongeBob? That Plankton is forever trying to wrestle the recipe out of SpongeBob and every time SpongeBob wants to believe the transformation is real. If it looks the same, talks the same, walks the same..isn't it the same?
For me, God challenged me with this: "it isn't a duck." What I'm facing in marriage looks like a duck, walks like a duck, talks like a duck but this time is not a duck. I have to trust God with this, open my heart to the experience and respond.
How about you? Do you remember the past so much you are afraid to take that football and trust? Do you want to be friends with someone who time and time again has proven to be in the past, an enemy? This can even be in other relationships or business situations.
If so, I'm with you and I encourage you to keep moving with God. He WILL see you through.
In His Love,
Julie
